Are hemp and hemp products legal at all?

In principle, hemp is legal throughout the EU. However, the restrictions regarding the use of hemp are important. Content of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). Products with a THC content of less than 0.2% are generally legal in the EU. Higher limits apply depending on the country.
Hemp is a versatile useful plant and is used in countless areas. It is therefore a pity that hemp is often associated with narcotics.

Which hemp varieties are used to make Hempion products?

Our products come from organic farming of certified EU commercial hemp. These varieties have a very low THC content and are approved in the EU. Hempions edibles are mainly produced from the varieties Fedora and Finola.

Which parts of the hemp plant contain THC?

THC is one of many cannabinoids. There are glandular hairs all over the cannabis plant (except seeds and roots). These produce a cannabinoid-containing resin. The content of THC is highest in the resin of the hemp flowers.
In the EU, only commercial hemp varieties with a very low THC content are allowed. The general THC limit is 0.2%. With such low levels, an intoxicating effect can be ruled out.

There are no age restrictions for food made from hemp and CBD cosmetics.
CBD oils may only be purchased from the age of 18.

In general, there are no records of allergic reactions when consuming pure hemp products. Nevertheless, in case of doubt, the trusted doctor should be consulted.

Do I get "high" when consuming hemp food?

No, hemp food has no intoxicating effect. In particular, products made from hemp seeds contain at most traces of the intoxicating THC.
A limit value for THC in food has not yet been set. According to the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), the consumption of 1 µg THC/kg body weight is safe.
Hempion's products contain at most traces of THC. Therefore, this value is not exceeded when consumed properly.

Which parts of the hemp plant are used to make food?

Food from hemp is mostly made from the hemp seeds. The small seeds are about the size of a peppercorn. Hemp seeds are among the most nutrient-rich foods on earth.
In addition, hemp leaves and flowers are also used for food.

Are children allowed to consume hemp food?

Yes, foods made from hemp are safe for children. They are even very suitable for meeting the nutritional needs of children. Especially during growth, children need more vitamins, minerals, healthy fats and protein than adults. Hemp seeds in particular contain a large proportion of these nutrients.

How are hemp crunchies made?

Hemp crunchies are made from unhulled, germinable hemp seeds:

  1. The unhulled seeds are slowly dried after harvesting.
  2. The next step is to clean the seeds, sorting out small and immature seeds.
  3. The hemp seeds are gently roasted to preserve the valuable ingredients.
  4. Depending on the variety, the crunchies are refined with salt, chocolate and spices.

Leaves and flowers of the hemp plant are mainly used for teas. We have also made salad with hemp leaves (but this is not a typical use). Dried hemp leaves are also ground to make hemp leaf powder. Hemp leaves contain:

Are there side effects and interactions of hemp food in combination with alcohol and medication?

When hemp foods are consumed properly, there are no known side effects or interactions. This is because foods made from hemp contain at most traces of THC. According to the European Food Safety Authority, hemp foods are harmless to health as long as the reference value of 1 µg THC/kg body weight is not exceeded. This value is observed when hempion products are consumed properly.

Is CBD legal?

Yes, CBD is 100% legal in Europe. CBD does not fall under the Narcotic Drugs Act or the Narcotic Substances Act.

Do I get high when I consume CBD products?

NCBD products must not exceed a very low THC content. This limit for THC is generally 0.2% in Germany and Europe. In Austria, the limit for THC is 0.3%.

Why do some CBD products say "not suitable for consumption"?

Manufacturers of CBD products thus circumvent the ban on CBD in food. CBD is therefore sold as "flavour oil" with the aforementioned additive.
The reason for this is a decree by the Austrian Ministry of Health that bans food and food supplements with added CBD.

What are CBD products made from?

CBD products are mainly extracted from hemp flowers. With the exception of the seeds and roots, the entire hemp plant has fine glandular hairs. These produce a cannabinoid-containing resin. Thus, CBD products can also be produced from leaves and stems. As a rule, the CBD content is highest in the flowers.

How are CBD oils made?

The extract in our CBD oils comes from CO2 extraction of hemp from organic cultivation. This enables the production of whole extracts with a wide range of valuable ingredients, including many cannabinoids, terpenes (fragrances) and flavonoids (secondary plant compounds).
In CO2 extraction, the ingredients are dissolved out under pressure with supercritical CO2. The purity of these extracts is particularly high because there are no residues of the solvent. This is often the case with other types of extraction, such as extraction in alcohol.

When can I use CBD-containing products and how should they be dosed?

Depending on the application goal, the appropriate application frequency should be selected. The following reference values for the application of CBD oil are helpful at the beginning:

Is there also Hempions CBD oil with more than 10% CBD content?

No, we only offer CBD oils with a CBD content that corresponds to the natural content of the source plant. EU commercial hemp varieties only rarely contain more than 15% CBD.
This means that our CBD oils are permitted as food supplements in Germany.

Against which complaints does CBD help?

The successful use of CBD for certain complaints and clinical pictures has already been confirmed by a large number of studies.
